Live your last days on earth for God

October 12, 2015

“So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things which Christ presides over. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from His perspective.”

Colossians 3:1-2 MSG

I love the Message version of this verse because it breaks it down and simplifies it in order for us to understand what exactly is required from us as children of God.

Many times we have heard that “we are in this world but not of this world”. This helps and shows us that we should not allow our short time on this earth to bombard or distract us. We have been promised an eternal life after death, therefore the 70+ years we may spend on earth is absolutely nothing in comparison to the eternal life. However, the importance lies in how we spend our days here on earth.

You may be wondering, but how do we realistically look up to the things above and not to the things around us. The truth is it is not easy at all, simply because we can not see God but we can see our friends, our cars, shops, houses and so forth. However there are practical steps in which can help us christians to be cautious and not to be so distracted.

1. Intimacy - The most important and foundation of it all. Having that relationship with christ. Communicating to him daily and not changing your daily routine but allowing God to take his place within your daily routine.

2. With intimacy comes, studying his word, with studying his word comes trusting what he says. When faced in a situation, remembering his word and believing and trusting what he says will help us to look up and be alert to what is going on around Christ.

We can not do these things without knowing who God is, and therefore that is why intimacy is the firm foundation of it all.

This helped me a lot, look up to the Lord every morning and ask Him “what do You want me to do?” When a conflict or situation arises, first pause before your flesh speaks and then ask God “what do You want me to learn from this situation? How do you want me to respond Lord?” It may seem hard at first but just try it because when you solely focus on God, committing yourself to the things above, He will surely see you through.

RP - Intimacy is the firm foundation of it all.
